According to Orbitcast.com and a forum poster at www.digitalradiocentral.com
Starting On march 1st the multi receiver radio is no longer going to be 6.99 the new price is 8.99 so we are only saving 30%.
Also there is no longer going to be any free online listening. the only ppl that will get it for free are the lifetime subscribers. Everyone else has to pay 2.99 unless they have mostly music or the family pack then it is 8.99 everyone will be getting emails starting Jan 26th ffor the sale that will be going on. You can purchase a 3 yr plan to lock in the multi receiver rate with the 6.99 price.
The above comes from a forum member “ken.muise”. Now anyone can post on a web forum so I’m not believing this until Sirius XM gives the official word.
According to Orbitcast.com their own sources have confirmed this information and also added
According to a person familiar with the matter, the Mostly Music/News subscription package will be increasing in price to $12.95/month, while the A La Carte package is said to be increasing in price though our source is unsure exactly to what extent. This person did confirm that Online Listening will cost $2.99 additional, and that multiple radios will increase to $8.99 a month. Adding further weight to the report on DRC.
Current subscribers will be given a chance to lock-in their rates, according to these people. You can choose to lock in the Online Listening or $6.99 multiple radio price. Notifications to subscribers are said to start going out on January 26th, and subscribers are rumored to have a chance to lock in their rates by March 11th.
Interesting to note any price increase to the A La Carte or Music/News is most likely a violation of the merger agreement with the FCC.
I will keep everyone posted but this is most likely solid for the Online Streaming, still rumor for the other information.
If Sirius XM starts charging extra for online streaming will you cancel service? If they start charging will we be able to stream in a higher bitrate?
If I’m getting charged for online listening I would like better audio quality and all channels available. If not there are many other free options out there to turn to.
More later.
Update:
Confirmed: Online listening will be raised from FREE to $2.99 a month and additional radios will increase to $8.99 a month.
Now the big question is will we gain anything by paying an additional $2.99 a month for online streaming?
I’m not thrilled about this and I’m not sure that the things said before the merger by Mel are true anymore.
What ever happened to our prices remaining the same after the merger?
I would love to hear other people’s thoughts on this.

I do most of my listening online, why not offer us an option to only pay for online listening now?
This is a bunch of Bullshit.
This is complete Bullshit. I am going to cancel. I have two radios and enjoy the online listening. I was undecided abuot cancelling anyways since all you get is commercials now, but now with the increase, I am definetly cancelling. Fuck this most locals radio stations are online anyways now. FUCK SIRIUS!!!
Another nail in the coffin of my Sirius subscription. I wonder what I can get on ebay for my Sirius receivers.
Cancelling all 3 subscriptions today…they are going to go bankrupt with this retarded business plan during a huge recession.
I will be canceling my subscription in March. Price freezing was specifically part of the XM Sirius merger agreement, and the nickel and dime crap for Internet listening is ridiculous. I mainly listen at work and the CD audio quality is not important for me and probably will not stream smoothly on my work computer. I hope they figure something out because of this price increase goes through, I am canceling my sub.
I’ll be closing my account as well. Merge together and within a year raise the prices after dropping a few of my favorite stations? Then who am I going to move to as there is no competition now. Get real…Just lost my 2 radio subscription.
Can’t believe they are going to charge for online.
Sent off an email to SIRIUS and I urge you all to do the same. Also emailed the HOWARD 100 folks. Stern has shown that he at times listens to the fans if enough make some noise.
I love my SIRIUS but with all these increases they are making it impossible to keep my subscriptions.
I hope they listen and at least give us back the free online.
Stern can’t and wont do anything about this. They already mentioned it on his show. Quite frankly it really doesn’t seem like Stern cares too much about his listeners anymore anyways he already has his 500 Million.
4 more subcriptions cancelled as soon as my credits are used.
I just cancelled my two subscriptions.
I love my XM & Sirius, but Mel should be shot! Thanks for fucking up CBS Radio and now just because you and Howard keep sucking all the money out of the company. My stock is worth less than a gum ball. Keep it up and everyday were closer to watching all of you die on the vine. Can’t wait to see you and Howard broadcasting from a Ice Cream truck!
Cancel my subscription. I knew that once they merged that shit like this would happen. Raise the rates ,more commercials on Stern BULLSHIT JUST BULLSHIT.
This is a deal breaker for me! I will cancel the day this goes into effect. I will call and email Sirius and let them know that they will be losing ANOTHER paying customer over this issue. Do they really want to lose all those $12.95/month (or more) listeners over $2.99 more a month???
Think again Sirius……this will bury the company faster than when Howard retires……wait and see!
Here are my predictions: Gary BaBaBooey will just put out his resume and get another production job. Robin may try and shop her own show. Artie has just about had enough of it anyway, so he will do his standup thing for now.
Howard will just say goodbye – retire and walk away with his millions. Yes, he will feel bad for all those that will be out of a job, but as soon as he looks at his trophy wife and his checkbook balance, all will be forgotten.
I am not going to pay anymore than what I pay now for satellite radio. As far as I know, most people only listen to between 2 and 6 stations, thats it!! I will just carry around my ipod!
I am now paying $12.95 to listen to a slew of commercials on Howard Stern. There are more and more each day. In one breath, he is telling us not to buy the same old stale stuffed animals for Valentines Breath, but to buy a gold rose from Steven Singer. 5 minutes later, he is telling us to buy a Vermont Teddy Bear? I’m surprised these advertisers allow such conflicting information. But of course, Stern is just reading from a piece of paper.
Personally I am sick of the whole satellite radio bullshit. Stern cares about his $500 mil, thats it! Not wasting my time or money anymore. I’m done!!
I just canceled (2/14/09). Sick of the same old tired Howard Stern talking about poop and farts. Tired of the same old music loops. Now I listen to I-pod in car.
I’m tired of the commercials, and I’m tired of hearing about Arties Heroin. The only other channels I listen to are 27 and 101, and with the watered down, clean Bubba mon-thurs, It doesnt make sense for me to pay a monthly fee for this crap. That 12.95 will buy me a case of beer, fuck sirius.
Cancelled today, I won”t pay any more, screw em…
Just got off the phone with Sirius. They offered online listening only for old price. If I wanted both services they wanted more money. I have been a member for almost 5 years and this offer sucks. So, good bye Sirius. I just cancelled.
Just got my email notification, and just called an cancelled , both my sub,s Complete BS , way to go XM ,I bet they are out off bizz in 3 months
I WILL not pay a single penny more .
Like most people I DIDENT GET A PAY rise this year , so something has to go , Bye Bye XM
I pay for 5 subscriptions, (4XM and 1 Sirius) I Also bought a Blackberry curve 8330 when it first hit the market, in anticipation of dropping 2 xm receivers and switching to the BB for me and the Mrs. But in what has now become true Siruis/XM style the app had not been written for a device that it was advertised on.
My favorite channels have been to switch between “Hits 1″ and “Top 20″ mainly when one plays a song I don’t really care for since I have both in my Jetta. Here is the problem, I HATE YOUR MORNIG SHOW ON HITS 1″ if I wanted morning zoo I’d turn on the local FM and listen to “Bob and Tom” on their home channel. Thank god I only have to put up with it during commercial on O&A, which is becoming more frequent and longer. Then to add to the frustration there is now Priestly on at night during my drive to work. I got XM for commercial free radio, I kept it because I didn’t have to listen to some no talent hack intro a song, that BTW is displayed on my receiver. Then to add more fuel to my frustration rates are going up. HMMMM I wonder if health insurance is behind this, fewer services at higher prices, sound like health care.
Thanks a lot FTC for allowing this merger to go through. I guess the public would benefit from more like this, satellite TV, cable TV and Telephone in one mega corp. Maybe you will allow the merger of Ford, GM and Chrysler too.
Anyhow to get to the end of this, sorry mom and dad I’m dropping the XM account, if you want to continue to get XM you are going to have to get your own account, sorry to my 3 brothers for buying you receivers for Xmas, it truly is a worthless gift, sorry to O&A, and lil’ Jimmy, but I am going to have to download your show daily FOR FREE (because that is what the Internet is about) and listen to you on my MP3 player on my way to work. And with that screw you Sirius/XM, I’m going terrestrial.
This starting to sound like bad FM. Starting to look for alternatives.
There were some truly revoltin overplayed songs on “deep tracks” and others
This “merger” ruined XM. They melded together stations saying it was the best of both stations – and ruined all of them. XM truly is beginning to sound just like fm, which sucks. Too bad. I will not be renewing, especially at these prices.
hey all I think the Sirius/Xm merger has done alot of good because Howard Stern has stayed through all the merger processes Xm subscribers can now sign up for the best of Sirius and vice versus for sirius subscribers can get the best of xm I have Xm with the best of Sirius and I really enjoy all the changes they made I had Sirius when the 2 were seperate companys I hated Sirius so I moved to Xm when the 2 merged together and I got the best of Sirius just so I could continue to hear Howard Stern and I like the Nfl coverage that came over from Sirius and channel 124 the nfl channel that I can now hear on my Xmp3 player that channel came over from Sirius as well so bye bye for now have a safe and happy new yr 2010 Gene G Jr
My husband was always complaining about paying the monthly fee for satelite radio. I got sick of hearing him, so I had his radio turned off.
That evening he came in the house screaming that his satelite radio wasn’t working and demanded that I call Sirius and complain and get his radio turned on immediately. Of course, I laughed so hard until I cried. He didn’t realize how much he liked satelite radio until he didn’t have it. Now he no longer complains, but says instead, I didn’t tell you to turn it off!
typical merger bullshit. We get charged more, for less, people get laid off and the executives get bigger bonuses. And the customer gets it stuck up their ass, as usual.
I wondered why, all of a sudden this past week, I could no longer sign into my online account and listen at work. It’s a shame since I really enjoyed having this option, but I am NOT paying an additional fee for that. There are plenty of other internet radio options that are FREE and I am most likely going to drop Sirius/XM from my car also due to the greedy factor of this company!!
